The first Argentine grill-restaurant in the country, it has received much critical acclaim from critics which include The Independent, The Telegraph, The Evening Standard and The Metro (London). Time Out stated '"There are few worthwhile Argentinian restaurants in London, and this one's a purler."
The décor is warm and inviting with its wooden floors and tables, black and white photographs on the wall, and a small central open kitchen, the restaurant is cosy and buzzing.
Santa Maria del Buen Ayre has a buzzy atmosphere you can guarantee a gen-u-ine tequila, salt and lemon while fantastic steaks are turned on a parilla over hot coals by chef and co-owner John Patrick Rattagan.
The menu consists mainly of a range of cuts and sizes of Argentinian steaks. A food critic from The Independent described the steaks as being 'sublime' and that the bife de lomo (8oz fillet) was a sexy, thick tranche that melted and swooned away at the touch of a knife.
The entire menu is consistently good and the prices reasonable coming in at around £8 for an 8oz steak, for instance. With the house wine around £10 a bottle, the wine list focuses on New World wines and unsurprisingly the majority are from Argentina
Santa Maria del Buen Ayre is well worth a trip to Hackney. Excellent food, a fun atmosphere, and steak for less than a tenner all make for a good out.
