UK REGION GUIDE

Find things to do in this Region
With over 40 miles of coastline designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty and several recommended beaches at places like Amble, this region has something for everyone.

The picturesque Cheviot Hills in the north are popular with walkers and Hadrian's Wall to the south, while Kielder water and forest provides plenty of sporting action. Sailing, canoeing, and mountain biking are just some of the activities available to family members who have energy to burn.

For those who prefer a more leisurely pace the area provides endless amounts of cultural and historic opportunities. There are many castles and stately houses to visit, Bamburgh Castle and Cragside House are both well preserved and fascinating. Quality museums like Bowes and the Beamish are just two that will provide hours of enlightenment.

Whatever your age, if you want something a bit special, a trip across the magical causeway to Lindisfarne Priory on Holy Island is sure to please.

People who crave retail therapy will love Durham and Newcastle-upon-Tyne, great shops and a chance to sample some delicious food in the many bistros and restaurants. There is also plenty going on in the evenings with many theatres and lively bars like 'The Attic'. Those that love architecture will find a lot in the area with Durham Castle and Cathedral.
