View three countries from one when standing in Dumfries and Galloway – Scotland to the north, Ireland to the west and England to the south. Galloway has the largest forest park in Britain and surrounded by so much beautiful scenery and wildlife makes this area the place to visit especially for bird lovers.
Take walking to the extreme – try the 212 mile Southern Upland Way walk from coast to coast, walking in the Moffat Hills or just take a stroll in the towns. Visit the Devil's Beeftub through the winding roads in the Moffat countryside as well as the Grey Mare's Tail waterfall. Cycling provides an excellent way of discovering the landscape using the National Cycle Network, the National Byway as well as off road challenges. Dalbeattie 7stanes however is ideal for the mountain bikers providing some of the best tracks for intermediate and experienced bikers.
Budding poets may even get inspiration to write just as Robert Burns did. Visit his home and the area he lived his later life. If feeling romantic maybe even take a trip to Gretna Green and get married or just visit the town for a bite to eat and a shopping trip. The area is filled with culture and festivities – even taking inspiration from filming in the area – the Wickerman is Scotland's Alternative Music Festival.
