UK REGION GUIDE

Find things to do in this Region
This small group of Islands situated about 80 miles off the English coast presents a quieter way of life in a picturesque setting. The climate and sea temperatures are warmer than the mainland so the emphasis here is on having fun in the water and on the beach.

Most of the beaches on the islands are safe and sandy. Some offer perfect opportunities to sunbathe and make sand castles while others are great for all types of water sports. Kayaking, diving, surfing, water skiing and wake boarding are all popular and there are further opportunities to hire a dinghy or take a thrilling speedboat trip.

Away from the water there are plenty of places to visit like Elizabeth Castle or an inspiring shell garden. The islands were occupied by the Germans during the Second World War, and several visitor attractions follow this theme including the German Underground Hospital which is strangely interesting. Other exhibitions charting the military history of the island can be seen at Castle Cornet in Guernsey.

The Island has lots of arts and crafts and this gives rise to many outlets for special items of jewellery and pottery etc. There may be a lack of large department stores on the islands but this is made up for by the quality and uniqueness of the products that are available.
