Find things to do in this Region

Surrounding Scotland from the north are the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland. Each Island has its own charm and beauty. With hundred of lochs it will be hard to keep the fishermen away from Shetland and of course that also means various water sports. Music is a huge part of Shetland's history and it is still a big focus today internationally known so if you hear anything you can be sure to buy it in the shops. Shetland's capital Lerwick has all the modern amenities so perfect for a range of visitors.
Orkney is found just north of Scotland. The islands lie lower than Shetland and are perfect for walking or cycling in although with an array of festivals like the Jazz festival, Orkney Folk festival, Beer festival and Stromness' Shopping Week it will be hard to leave the area!
The Western Isles include Harris, Lewis, Barra, North and South Uist and Banbecula. On Lewis, Stornoway is like a mainland town so don't think you won't find any social life. Harris has miles of sandy beaches made famous on BBC's Castaway The Islands is well equipped with restaurants and pubs to enjoy but leaving the land and going out to sea gives visitors the chance to encounter dolphins and sharks.
